(Agence Ecofin) - According to the 2014-2015 edition of the Global Competitive Report, the Rwandan government is 7th for the efficiency of its public management. The country comes out ahead of Switzerland (9th) or Luxemburg (10th). According to the World Economic Forum (WEF) who published this report, Rwanda’s ranking is explained in large part by the very low level of waste in terms of government expenditure.

“We are not surprised by this ranking because it just expresses the reality of what happens in our country. In Rwanda, there is a clear process for management and accountability reporting, particularly in the use of public resources”, declared Anastase Shyaka who heads the Rwandan Governance Board (RGB). Rwandans have access to critical information about the government action, the decisions of the administration and the way it establishes its priorities and makes its choices, he said to Xinhua.

In Africa, Rwanda is followed by Mauritius (26th) and South Africa (32nd). In the Eastern part of the continent, it is far ahead of Kenya (51st) and Uganda (79th).

The report assesses the efficiency level of the governance of 144 countries worldwide on the basis of criteria such as waste of resources, regulatory challenges and transparency in the elaboration of national policies.

At the international level, WEF surprisingly ranked Qatar first, ahead of Singapour and Finland.
