(Agence Ecofin) - According to a communiqué from the General Director of the Telecommunications and Post Regulatory Authority (ARTP) of Senegal, published on 26 August 2015, a new telecom fraud network has been dismantled by the police. After the Sonatel and Tigo cases, respectively in July 2015 and July 2015, this new fraud case on incoming telecom calls affected the network of mobile telephone operator Expresso.

Raids on the Gueule Tapée and Fann Hock sites enabled the Medina police to apprehend 3 individuals: a Chadian and two Comorians, including a woman. The operation resulted in the seizure, at Gueule Tapée, of 125 Expresso SIM cards and 2 SIMBOX. In Fann Hock, 139 Expresso SIM cards were found as well as 2 SIMBOX. A total of 264 Expresso SIM cards and 4 SIMBOX of a capacity of 8 cards each.

According to estimates from mobile telephone operator Expresso, the damages incurred by this attack on its network could be estimated at several tens of million FCfa. This also represents a loss in revenue for the Senegalese state who collects dividends from telecom operators on incoming international calls.
