Togo: For some days, disruption of Internet service

(Agence Ecofin) - Togolese Internet users have difficulties gaining access to the web since last week. The network is characterised by disruptions which make connecting to internet difficult, in some cases even impossible.

For the lucky ones who nevertheless manage to get online, the speed is too slow to enable communication. Pages do not load, the cursor keeps going round, a sign that downloading the page is laborious. Tired of this situation and angered, the Togolese internet users quickly expressed their displeasure to the customer service and branches of the internet supplier Togo Telecom.

Romain Ataféitom Tagba, CEO of the national telecommunications operator, justified the current bad quality of the internet service by maintenance and upgrade works, on the network and on the subsea fiber optic cable which serves the country.

He added that "the technical teams are tirelessly working to get the situation back to normal as soon as possible". Outraged, the customers are demanding to be forewarned in the future of any work which would have an impact on the quality of the service.
