(Agence Ecofin) - On 9 July 2015, the minister of Post and Telecommunications, Thierry Lézin Moungalla, went on ground to check on the progress of fitting fiber optic to link Congo to Gabon in the second phase of the Central Africa Backbone (CAB) project. It appears that 76 km have been deployed in a month. The works started on 18 June from Pointe-Noire.

The minister finds the speed of work satisfactory. “We note that the time lines will be respected, since the project must be delivered by Huawei and its subcontractors between March and April 2016”, declared Thierry Moungalla.

It was decided in the work program that this vast fiber optic deployment project, monitored by the ministry of Territorial Planning and the General Delegation for Major Works, will follow the Congo Ocean Railway and cross Pointe-Noire, Bilinga, Dolisie, Mont-Mbelo, Makabana, Mossendjo and will end at Mbinda where the connection with the fiber optic from Gabon will be made. There are only 4km of fiber optic to install to reach Hinda. The works, which should link Hinda to Bilinga, the first real stop on the map drawn by the authorities, have also already started.
