(Agence Ecofin) - On 30th June 2015, the general meeting of Societe Tunisienne des Entreprises de Telecommunications (Sotetel) shareholders agreed to extend the company's presence in Africa in a bid to renew with growth, which was severely affected in 2014. It was thus decided to get a permanent office in Algeria. The process has already begun. In this new market, Sotetel hopes to benefit from its positioning to win local tenders.

Present in Libya where the political instability hampers business, Sotetel, in its expansion bid, declared its intention to win the market for the roll out of fibre optic in Mauritania. The subsidiary of the national telecommunications operator Tunisie Telecom, specialised in the installation and maintenance of all types of telephone setup for governments, public institutions and private users already has an office in Cameroon. Through its technical teams, it supports the national operator Camtel in the roll out of its mobile network. Omrane Kammoun, CEO of Sotetel revealed "contracts have also been established with the main actors of the sector in Ivory Coast".

In 2014, Sotetel was assigned a restructuring plan due to the poor results of that year. The company saw its export component drop by 2.1 million dinars (US$1,073,100) in 2013 to 0.936 million dinars (US$478,296). Turnover fell from 37.797 million dinars (US$19,314,267) in 2013 to 36.655 million dinars, (US$18,730,705)
